10 - 12 Year Olds (Cal Ripken Majors)
This division actually has been around since the early 1950’s and was originally known as the South Weymouth Little League. Our league has been chartered with Babe Ruth Baseball since 1988 when we renamed the entire program Weymouth South Youth Baseball. In 2016, the Leauge was renamed Weymouth Cal Ripken Baseball League.
This group consists of 6 major league teams where players go through tryouts in the fall and are drafted by coaches onto teams.
At this level there are all-star team selections made and players enter the Cal Ripken District tournaments in June and July . If successful they move on to state and regional tournaments.
All games are played at Negus Park on Pond Street in South Weymouth.
AA Division, 9 - 12 Year Olds (Cal Ripken Minors)
The AA Minor League Division is made up of 9 -12 year old players.
These ballplayers usually play 15 games each season with, skill sessions built into season to enhance your childs basebball skills. No tryouts are requied at this level.
These games are played at Negus Park and Gifford Field in Weymouth
A Division, Rookie 7/8-Year Olds
This division is the next step for the players where they will learn more about pitching and the fundamentals of the game.
Coaches pitch to their players for the first 3 weeks of the season and then the boys and girls begin pitching on their own.
Games are played at Hamilton and Ralph Talbot schools
T-Ball Division, 4-7Year Olds
This division is instructional baseball. Boys and girls hit off a t-ball stand for the first few weeks of the season. They are taught proper ways to throw, catch and hit soft safety baseballs.
Towards the end of the season the coaches will start pitching to them so they can begin to develop eye-hand coordination.
All games end in ties and everyone usually goes home happy.
These games are played at Nash school.
